
Eric P. McJimsey, Saxophonist
B i o g r a p h y
Eric P. McJimsey, is a saxophonist, clinician, and educator in the Houston, Texas area, with a studio of over 60 students. Eric's students consistently appear in Region Bands and The Houston Underground Saxophone Competition. As an educater he believes that any student can go as far as they want, with the right fundamentals and work ethic. Mr. McJimsey believes in consistent, constant practice, of Scales, Etudes, and Repertoire.
Originally from Lafayette, LA, Eric received his Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA. Eric was principal Saxophonist in the NSU Wind Symphony in 2009 and 2011, and was lead alto in the NSU Jazz Orchestra in 2010. He was a featured Soloist in 2008 with the Northwestern State University Symphony Orchestra, performing Tableaux de Provence and was a recipient of the McCuthceons award in 2011, awarded annually to the best jury performance.
Mr. McJimsey received his Masters degree in Saxophone Performance from The University of New Mexico. As an advocator of chamber music, he founded the "Baried" Alive Duo and the Dionysus Saxophone Quartet while at UNM. As the baritone saxophonist of Dionysus, Mr. McJimsey was the runner up at the 2015 Regional MTNA Chamber Music Competition and was a semi-finalist in the Coltman Chamber Music Competition.
As a performer, Eric has performed at numerous saxophone conferences around the country. His primary teachers include Dr. Eric Lau, Dr. Paul Forsyth, and Dan Gelok.
